Okay, call me biased but I am noticing a trend.
I am seeing more and more business men (and women) investing in their health and fitness more seriously than ever before and I don’t think it’s a coincidence.
Rewind back to last year when I was doing the Warrior 300 online coaching program with master mentor Garrett J White. For those of you who are unfamiliar with Garrett J White, His message is aimed at business men and male entrepreneurs who want to succeed not only in business but in all areas of life including their body, their relationships, sex life, marriage and spiritual life too.
One of the things that drew me to him was the fact that he was always exercising and always training. He used to tell his mentees that fitness was an integral part of achieving goals in any area of life and I agree with him.
Fast forward to earlier this year when I was in an audience for a live filming of the Ask Gary Vee show when Serial celebrity entrepreneur, Gary Vaynerchuck came down from the USA. I will never forget him talking about how he has lost weight due to working with a personal trainer and how much better it makes him feel about himself.
This all got me thinking more and more about the link between success in business (and indeed in all areas of your life ) and physical fitness and well being more than before, even though I have been thinking about this for a few years now since making it my mission to create a business that combines fitness with personal development to help people achieve better things in all areas of their lives.
Let’s take a look at the fitness habits of some of the world’s most successful people;
– Sir Richard Branson regularly exercises and swims, bikes and does yoga on a daily basis. He told Joe Polish that this was the number one secret to increasing productivity.
– Facebook founder, Mark Zuckerburg trains with a personal trainer 5 times a week and follows a strict diet.
– Tesla founder, Elon Musk is a keen sports player and is known to play sports on a regular basis.
– Seasoned investment veteran, Warren Buffet has taken to exercise to help him as has the current POTUS, Barack Obama.
In fact, name an entrepreneur these days who is worth their weight in salt… or gold, and they’ll have a fitness habit as part of their routine. Sure, they may not be a competitive bodybuilder (like AirBnB founder Brian Chesky) or competitive fighter (like Chatri Sityodthong who is a real estate magnet and owner of the ONE FC, Asia’s MMA competition that’s bigger than the UFC out there!) but many do have a ritual and with good reason!
Firstly, regular exercise helps regulate hormones such as seratonin, endorphins and dopamine which make you feel better about yourself and give you a happy feeling. This positive feeling helps when you’re stressed out, having face to face interactions or just need to de-stress, and then there’s the de stress element too!
Not to mention the increase in the hormone testosterone due to working out. Testosterone is known for boosting productivity and clearer thinking as well as increasing a man’s competitive drive.
But ultimately, it will allow you to enjoy the fruits of your labour for far longer, in fact I call it the best investment you can make!
So why do I feel that fitness is the best investment you can make? Well, quite simply put, How would you feel about an £6000 + Vat investment that would yield £26,000 – A pretty return on such a small sum invested right?
Well, here’s where the numbers come from? To work with me for a year would work out at about £6k + the VAT where we will work with you to get you into optimum health and wellness. Now, imagine that this buys you one more productive year of your life. The average UK income is £26,000 meaning that you’d make an average of £26,000 per productive year but let’s be honest, youre an entrepreneur and you’re far above average! That 6000 investment may be worth 10x or even 100x or even more!
But it’s not just about the money!
Participating in an exercise and nutrition program requires discipline and creating new habits. The great thing is that fitness is known as a gateway habit. In other words, the habits you create when you work on your health and fitness are then applied to other areas of your life. Your business, career, marriage, relationships etc. And as far as I am concerned, the gym or sport arena is one of the best arenas to “Test your stuff”.
In fact, in a recent blog post shared by Men’s fitness magazine on their website, they stated that Fitness was the new secret to million dollar success (Click to read it) – In the article, they highlighted three different entrepreneurs and their fitness habits.
The bottom line is that when we’re focused on business success, all too often, our health becomes expendable. Going to the gym or working out becomes a luxury. Eating clean and sleep become an after thought especially in this world of round the clock hustle that has become so popular but the reality is, without good nutrition, rest and even exercise, your body will start to fight back and the result is a drop in performance and productivity not to mention in how you feel about yourself. Your confidence may take a dip and the worst feeling is that feeling that you know you should be doing something but aren’t and all of this plays havoc on your ability to work at optimum performance.
So in conclusion, If you want to optimize your life, your productivity and your business as well as enhancing your life, vitality, confidence levels and feelings of overall well being, making fitness an integral part of your overall business mission is a key and not just a luxury and we know from experience, having worked with many business owners and professionals, about the positive impact fitness training and a sound nutrition plan can make on that individual.
